What is HappyMapper?
HappyMapper is a game used primarily for children with neuromotors disorders during active brainmapping administered using TMS under the supervision of clinicians. Therapy results are measured and tracked while they play. This approach replaces the traditional method of measuring results that were often difficult to administer due to the tedious, cumbersome, and error prone nature of those tests.
HappyMapper makes the job of measuring progress for clinicians easier and the participation in the process for the patients more pleasing.
What is TMS?
Brain mapping is important for patients with neuromotor disorders as it may have significant impacts on guiding rehabilitation and evaluating treatment interventions.
This mapping is delivered during Trans-cranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) in children with neuromotor disorders.
Who are We Helping?
HappyMapper solves boredom induced delays, resulting in TMS sessions that would have previously taken up to 3 hours being reduced to an hour and a half. This drastically decreases the operational costs of a TMS session for the clinician. This reduction of time spent in the lab, as well as the gamification of the process, also improves the children’s experience and leaves them excited to return.
What is Innovation 4 Health?
Innovation 4 Health is a catalyst for innovation. There are many challenges out there just waiting to be solved, but often healthcare professionals, caregivers and patients do not have the resources, expertise, or time to address them. On the other hand, there are many skilled individuals that are eager to innovate, but don’t know where to start. Our mission is to connect innovators with real-world challenges in human and veterinary healthcare to address inefficiencies and barriers to wellness for all.
The annual Health Hack Competition is I4H’s flagship program that occurs at the University of Calgary, typically in the Fall semester. Focusing on a different theme each year, it brings multidisciplinary teams together with healthcare expertise and empowers them with mentorship and rapid prototyping facilities to address challenges in healthcare with technology solutions.
The 2019 theme for I4H was Children’s Health. With 28 teams competing, HappyMapper was awarded 1st place overall!
